Satoru Kato has over 32 years of experience in the field of architectural design & construction. In addition to overseeing the preparation and organization of the architectural documents and construction administration, Mr. Kato is been responsible for quality assurance, cost control, code compliance, supervision of outside professional disciplines, and integration of building services for all projects. He was previously employed as a project architect by renowned architectural firms such as Skidmore Owings & Merrill, AECOM, and Gensler & Associates.

Mr. Kato ensures that all services are carried out by the professional team within the established schedule and budget while reviewing for compliance with the approved program requirements and client goals. With extensive and diverse experience in the execution of complex projects, he works closely with a client, the construction teams, and others who contribute to the successful completion of the project. Mr. Kato is also responsible for the firm’s material and product research, standards for documentation, specifications, field services, and equipment planning and technically complex exterior building enclosures.

His experience and accomplishments have encompassed the detailed design, technical coordination, and project management of an extensive array of highly complex projects including San Francisco International Airport and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco; Fairmont Hotel in San Jose; Fresno International Airport in Fresno, the landmark 52 story Gas Company tower, Univision Television Corporate Headquarters and Dole Headquarters in Los Angeles.

In addition to his experience in the United States, he has extensive international experience in Thailand, mainland China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Japan. Born and raised in Japan and a resident of United States, he brings his Asian sensibility and awareness with Western expertise to his projects. Mr. Kato has led the project architect training programs at SOM, AECOM and Gensler. He now utilizes this leadership skill with the staff at DiMarzio | Kato Architecture as well as with the numerous local architects that he encounters on foreign projects. This ‘technology transfer’ has become a benefit to the quality of detailing and construction on foreign work while enhancing the skill level of the local consultants.
